2023/2024 Dance Season RECITAL STUDENTS: Class Descriptions & Prerequisites.
Students may spend two or more years in the same tier or level. Progression to the next Tier or Level is not automatic. Students must demonstrate sufficient interest, focus and attain the required skills to advance to the next stage of training according to the teacher’s recommendation. Performing in the Recital is optional but strongly recommended. Students MUST reach the required age by November 1st.
Junior Dance 2: progression in ballet technique, body awareness, and increased movement across the floor. Beginner Jazz technique is added to this class's curriculum. -Junior Dance 1 Program completed.
Ballet & Jazz 1&2: The class will focus on correct classical placement and technique. Students will develop strength, grace, and flexibility, working at the barre and in the center. Intermediate Jazz center work, technique, across-the-floor combinations, stretching, and coordination. -Primary Dance and/or Junior Dance Programs completed
Ballet & Jazz 3&4: Students are invited into these tiers after demonstrating a complete understanding of the previous years of training. Progress is determined by the student's ability to focus on posture, the position of the arms, turn out, and body alignment. Pre-pointe exercises are introduced. Depending on individual progression and development, dancers will be recommended for beginner pointe training, incorporated into Tier 5&6 classes. Intermediate/advanced across-the-floor jazz combinations. -must also be enrolled in all corresponding Ballet and Jazz classes and four years of continued ballet training.
Ballet/Pointe and Jazz 5&6: Tier 5&6 students continue to develop strength in the feet, and the training becomes much more intense. Classes will focus on barre and center work, pirouettes, head and upper body use, the fluidity of port de bras, and the intricacies of small and large jumps. Beginner to advanced pointe syllabus incorporated in this class. Ballet repertoire: choreography from classical ballets. The Jazz class is designed to focus on proper across-the-floor and center floor technique within the Jazz genre. Leaps/jump turns, advanced combinations, strength, and flexibility are emphasized in this class. -must also be enrolled in all corresponding Ballet and Jazz classes and four years of continued ballet training.
Tap 1&2: An introduction and/or progression in tap technique and vocabulary learned in previous levels. -Primary or Junior Dance Programs completed, or teacher’s recommendation.
Tap 3&4: Intermediate tap curriculum corresponding to level classes. -previous tiers completed
Tap 5&6: Advanced tap curriculum corresponding to level classes. -previous tiers completed
Irish Tap I: -Introduction to basic hard shoe Irish dancing. -Tap Tier 2 completed and presently enrolled in Tier 3 or above Tap
Irish Tap II: Intermediate/Advanced hard shoe Irish dance curriculum. -completed Irish Tap I and presently enrolled in Tap Tier 4 or above.
Modern A-D: The modern technique used is designed to fortify, stretch, and lengthen the body in preparation for its use as an instrument of expressive dance. In Modern, students learn how to extend their range of movement from a strong ballet foundation. -currently enrolled in Ballet & Ballet/Jazz
Contemporary: Contemporary movement taught. -currently enrolled in Ballet&Jazz Tier and 4-6 Modern B-D
Lyrical: This dance style combines technical elements of ballet with jazz movement. The dancer's emotional expression, balance, sustained extensions, fluidity, and enhanced body lines are the focus of this class. -currently enrolled in Ballet&Jazz Tier 3-6
Musical Theatre 1-6: Jazz warm-up, acting games, dance combinations, and lyrics from various musicals are taught. -previous jazz experience recommended
Hip Hop 1-4: Beginner to Intermediate Hip Hop curriculum. A rigorous warm-up, upper and lower body conditioning to help prepare students for more intense movements. -students must have the strength and stamina to perform moves successfully.
Hip Hop 5&6: Advanced Hip Hop curriculum. A rigorous warm-up, upper and lower body conditioning to help prepare students for more intense movements. -completed previous tiers and teacher’s recommendation.
Acro A-C: Class includes skills that require counterbalance, flexibility, and strength. Performed on mats. -evaluation and level placement based on a skills chart.
